Cost of Care Plan

“This home is founded on my sincere belief that those who have lived honest, industrious lives and are without means or friends to take care of them have earned the right to be cared for. Only through the labor and expenditures of others is it possible…” Thomas Plant, 1917.

Some of our residents have seen their hard work and planning paired with good fortune, and can afford the care they require in our senior living community, while other residents lack the means to afford that same care.  Although it is not realistic to reduce the cost of the quality care we provide at Plant Memorial Home, we do offer several financial options to help ensure that you or your loved one does not have to leave our community due to financial constraints.

Income Qualification

LIHTC
Applicants desiring residency in our Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) must have income below 60% of the Average Median Income (AMI) for Sagadahoc County, as published annually by Maine State Housing Association (Income and Rent and Income Charts (www.mainehousing.org/charts/rent-income-charts).

MARKET RATE
Applicants who do not meet the LIHTC income restrictions, desiring residency in the main building or one of our 2-bedroom cottages, must demonstrate income and assets sufficient to cover rental fees.

ASSET QUALIFICATION
All applicants must demonstrate assets of at least 3X the annual cost of rent plus the cost of our highest service package, and are responsible for a minimum of 3 years’ worth of assisted living services plus rent before any scholarships can be awarded. Families of residents who lack the funds to fulfill this requirement must make monthly or lump-sum 501 (c) (3) donations to our scholarship fund/endowment in amounts equivalent to the difference in funds until the 3-year requirement is met. Once the 3-year requirement is met, PMH scholarships/endowment funds will cover the difference between the cost of care and up to 80% of the resident’s income for as long as the resident receives care at the Plant Home. Disposal of assets in an amount equal to more than 10% of total assets may result in disqualification from the scholarship/endowment program.

As of 01/01/2026, the Asset Requirement is $300,000.
